Well i just got the ac unit like 2 days ago...... from previous reviews I already knew i was going to get insulation for the hose and the window -so I did. i set it up on a high sturdy table just below the window ran the hose ,insulated it and the window . turned it on and cold air was right there ,although it was 96 degrees outside and 85 in my room as i was installing it . long story short -its quiet ,its smooth , its looks very modern and hi-tech with its blue screen and the remote works perfect.my room dropped 9 degrees in 12 minutes flat ..... was hanging at 69 degrees in an hour and got as low as 65 over night to the point i had to put the temp back to 70 because me and my wife were to cold!!

My parents surprised me with this portable AC unit as an early birthday present and I couldn't be more thrilled! I've looked at portable units for a few years now but have always talked myself out of the expense by reminding myself how we never had AC growing up and so I didn't really need one now. But... with the 90+ degree, SUPER HUMID weather we've been having this year, I was ready to break down and buy at least an old window unit, so this couldn't have arrived at a more perfect time :)It's currently in my bedroom because while I can deal with the heat during the day, I find it challenging to sleep through it in the evening. I also know that my parents purchased this with the intent of it being used in my room. They really stressed the fact that they had shopped around to try and find me the quietest model for that reason alone. I don't know anything about BTU's but I can say that this unit is probably overkill for my little 120sq foot bedroom. Not a bad thing since I am conscientious of my energy use and I'm happy that I don't need to run it all day or all night for that matter to get my room to a comfortably cool sleeping temperature. My guess is that this would be an appropriate/effective unit for a room up to two or three times the size of my own.It is noisy but when my dad set it up and turned it on, he was quite pleased with the volume. Having never owned an AC unit myself, I'm guessing from the proud look on his face that other units must be much louder. While I think it's a bit loud (louder then say, a large window fan), I don't find it to be an issue because I haven't had to keep it on all through the night and it seems that once you get accustomed to the sound, it doesn't seem that loud at all (more like white noise).This unit is VERY heavy but it has convenient roller wheels on the bottom to make transporting it a breeze. I'll only be moving this out of my bedroom and into one of my storage rooms for when cooler weather hits but if you intend on using this unit in multiple rooms, you'd probably want to invest in an additional window mount. The hose disconnects from the window mount, but the mount itself is screwed into your window so... it'd be a pain to try and move that component around frequently. There is a plastic piece that fits into the window mount to 'close up' the hole where the tubing attaches for when the AC unit is not connected. This unit also has a built in dehumidifier and fan option which you can choose to run independent from the AC option and in addition to a control panel, there is also an included remote control.So very happy with this gift - it is one of the best presents I've ever received. We were very excited to try something to keep our living room comfortable and not have our A/C running for 16 to 18 hours in a day. This has done the trick. We set it up quickly and easily ... and it was able to cool the room that has high ceilings and is a 385sqft room down nicely. We keep the house set at 80 during the day and the living room would get well above that, but with this it stays at least at 80 or lower all day. With record high heat here in south Texas... I am just hoping this will help keeping our electric bill down. Thanks
