We just moved into a new house where the 2nd floor is just a wide open room and heats up like an attic. We purchased this unit from Lowes ($399) and are really happy with the results. Within 4 hours the whole upstairs was 72 degrees and had started at 91 degree reading but was probably warmer than that. It is surprisingly quiet. My 18" pedestal fan on low is louder than this unit on medium. The sound is actually comforting.The build quality feels solid, and is a single exhaust and the window pieces make it ideal for all window sizes from 28-80 inches for those side sliding windows will work. Its not as heavy as I thought it would be for a 12000 btu and it slides nicely even on carpet. I do dislike that the dehumidifier has a direct drain because who has a drain on the second floor or any floor other than a basement.I was skeptical because so many portables get bad reviews but this had good reviews for the most part on lowes so and they offer a 30 day return. The unit has a 24 month warranty for in-home repairs! Who else offers that?
